Vodnjan je u prošlosti bilo važno urbano središte te je danas ovaj grad zanimljivo odredište, posebice za ljubitelje umjetnosti i kulture. Najvažnija privredna grana je tradicionalno maslinarstvo, proizvodnja ekstra djevičanskog maslinovog ulja. Postoji nekoliko uljara. Osim toga stanovništvo se bavi vinogradarstvom, stočarstvom, trgovinom, uglavnom domaćom proizvodnjom. Svakako najveća posebnost ovog kraja jeste istarski jezik autohtonog stanovništva još iz rimskih vremena. Najbitniji događaj je Bumbarska fešta koja se održava u kolovozu.

U ovom mjestu planira se gradnja luksuzne vile s panoramskim pogledom na Brijune neto stambene površine od 352 m2.
